In Nagaland the street vendors, or the network of women engaged in marketing local products comprise almost 70% of the total women actively engaged in the marketplace, involving in a variety of trading activity ranging from running retail outlets, salons, bakeries etc. It estimated that there are 35000 to 40000 women street vendors across the length and breadth of Nagaland state. Women dominate the scene of vegetable vending in the state with street vendors comprising of 99o/o women. Though they constitute the major portion of women active in economic activities, they are the most neglected lot being mostly illiterate, dropouts, single mothers, widows, and women from difficult circumstances who see this activity as the easiest option, given the need for very less investments and not requiring many skills to run the business.

To provide hope to many other women who will see the successful vendors as a role models and attempt to learn from their experiences, encouraging them to also seek advancement for their lives.
