Project Details
Nagaland has huge potential for harnessing small hydro power. In spite of its hydro power potential, Nagaland has very negligible generation and utilization of small hydro power. Development of small hydropower system will contribute towards alleviating acute shortage of rural electricity supply in Nagaland. Comprehensive infrastructure has to be created in Nagaland to exploit the small hydro potential to the fullest extent and with utmost speed. Further, considering the global environment and sustainable needs, the successful implementation of Pico/Micro/Mini / small hydropower projects will definitely help in mitigating the greenhouse gases, as it is estimated that each kWh of electrical energy used through thermal sources will contribute to the production of an additional 1 kg of Carbon dioxide. Under these circumstances, it is becoming an urgent necessity to initiate institutional efforts to exploit the Pico/Micro/Mini / small hydro systems on a priority basis.

Proposed Activities
1. It is envisaged that introduction of the small hydropower to the village will change the village economy, access to reliable renewable energy, strengthen watershed management and lead to sustainable development.2. Create first of its kind ''Community Based Hydro Electricity''. Villages will have community based hydro electricity in their own village run by their own hydro resources leading to self sufficiency in energy 3. This is expected to bring about a change in the mindset of the people and bring about an economic revolution in villages, by facilitating small- scale industries, food processing, tourism facilities and value addition to agriculture/forest produce in all rural villages of Nagaland.
