Installation of OPGW for uncovered section of Transmission lines in Nagaland
Department
Department of power
Project Details
OPGW also known as Optical Ground Wire is the state of the art technology in power engineering. The advantage of OPGW over conventional earth wire is to provide wideband communication links between Substations for real time data collection, telemetry & reporting besides giving protection to transmission lines against lightning surges. It is also essential for robust SCADA applications and provides a platform for protection against faults. The Installation of OPGW on the state transmission utility was first implemented under NE-FO expansion scheme wherein a length of 100kms was covered. Further, laying of OPGW for Kohima-Meluri and Mokokchung-Tuensang with a total length of 1331.1 km under NERPSIP scheme was completed in 2020-2021.
Area of Operations
Dimapur, Kohima, wokha
Thematic Area
Renewable Energy Solutions
Targeted Beneficiaries
BPL, Women, children, rural, youth etc
Proposed Activities
1. To connect major sub-stations with OPGW links and establish reliable communication between them for effective management. 2. To enable the state Load Dispatch Centre( SLDC) to retrieve real time data from these substations and facilitate wideband telemetry between them. This will enable the operators to take prompt action in the section in the section where fault has occured and prevent cascading effect.
