Project Details
According to the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, every ULB has to set up a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) for sorting the segregated waste and send only rejects to the landfill. The ULBs are unable to set up a functional MRF with the funds received and also, the revenue generated cannot cover even the salary and O&M components. In the current state of affairs, the UDD is unable to provide the requisite support required by the ULBs in addressing the waste management issues as well as giving effect to the provisions of the rules. In addition, with no proper waste management system, the traditional method of waste disposal, viz., burning, burying and open dumping in drains/water bodies, opted by the ignorant public cannot be checked.
