Setting up of 150 Mini Breeding unit under Kiphire, phek and Tuensang
Department
North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA)
Project Details
The major limiting factor for increased productivity of pigs is poor feed regime. Although the local small, indigenous pigs nave been replaced with improved crossbreeds over the years, pig production is still largely traditional in Nagaland. NEIDA will collaborate with the Pig Farmers Organization to supply sufficient compound concentrated pig feed. This feed efficiency will strongly influence the financial returns of the pig farmers thereby helping them to earn more income. The project will mobilize pig farmers into groups comprising of 7 to. 10 members at the village level. Once the primary groups have established, the PGs will be federated at the village level to promote solidarity and economies of scale both in group activities and delivery of services and then linked to a Pig Producer Organization.
