Project Details
Longleng District being in the rural area, the lack of infrastructural development is on the verge of affecting the economy of the district in large scale. Due to the geographical location of the district direct marketing channel opportunity is not available. And perishable products/crops are unable to keep it fresh for longer period. Hence, setting up of cold storage is a basic necessity for marginal farmers to help them avail better price and prolong the shelf life of products. It also helps in post harvest storage and reduce amount of agricultural waste. In absence of proper storage technique and refrigerated truck the farmers usually sell their vegetables in the local markets soon after the harvest. The spoilage of fruits and vegetables can be controlled by setting up proper cool storage and refrigerated van to transport the products and promote marketing of local agri products in the area. This can enhance the community to get better quality of fruits and vegetables in the market Total farmers Longleng district – apprx.7970 farming Households where 80% of the farmers are marginal and only 20 % are progressive farmers. The project is proposed on the gap analysis to help the farmers by providing cool storage truck and refrigerated truck facilities to transport the agricultural products in durable amount of time to maintain quality once the corps is harvested and maintain optimum storage .
