Project Details
One of the major reasons for rural poverty in Nagaland is the difficult terrain of the state coupled with inadequate development and poor infrastructure. Almost every sector has been handicapped by the lack of infrastructural support. As a result, most of the rural population is highly dependent on Agriculture for sustenance.About 90% of the rural economy is highly dependent on Agriculture in the district of Noklak, where surplus production is an important activity for improving the economy of the district which provides livelihood-cum-employment opportunities to the rural population. These areas have poor infrastructure facilities relating to storage, transport, and marketing and are industrially backward. An efficient transport system is critically important in order to make agricultural marketing a success. With this view, the project seeks for procurement of ‘’Agricultural Marketing Trucks‘’ to transfer produce from the farmers/villages to different outlets in the district and across the state. This will help the farmers to dispose of their surplus produce in time with remunerative return to enhance the rural economy. The project ensures that consumers get fresh organic produce directly from the source rather than third party or middlemen and without paying any additional charges in the process. The project aims to offer the ‘’Farm to Consumer’’ service, thereby, encouraging and enhancing the life of the farmers.
