CSR expenditure in the State of Nagaland has been hugely lagging behind as compared to other states. As per data provided in Ministry of Corporate Affairs website csr.gov.in, out of Rs. 24,864 Crore spent through CSR across India for the FY 2019-20, Nagaland ranks at 35th with only Rs. 5 Crore as CSR spending.
The only states/union territories trailing behind Nagaland are Andaman Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Mizoram. Even within the Northeastern states, the expenditure in Nagaland in 2020-21 is only 3.98% of the total expenditure with large chunk (64%) spent in Assam. While it is not expected that the State will attract the same amount of CSR expenditure as some of the larger states, there is a scope and an unrealized potential for large increase in the CSR expenditure.
In order to explore the possibility of increasing the engagement of companies in the development experience of the State through their CSR initiatives, a CSR Conclave is being organized from 4th to 6th July 2022 with the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister as the Chief Guest.
The CSR Conclave will provide a platform for presenting the opportunities for developmental projects in Nagaland, sharing of experiences and for handshaking for future projects for the various stakeholders i.e. the Ministry of Corporate Affairs; the Department of Public Enterprises; the various Chambers of Commerce; the eligible companies (both CPSEs and other than Government companies) having a footprint in the State through their commercial activities or who are interested in expanding their CSR development outreach to the North-East and Nagaland; CSR Foundations and large NGOs involved in assisting the companies in meaningfully spending their CSR expenditure; the State Government and its various departments; the District Administrators; and the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the State.
