On March 12, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Kumar Beri inaugurated Nagaland's first Histopathology Unit at Naga Hospital Authority in Kohima. Funded by Numaligarh Refinery Limited under a CSR initiative and implemented by IDAN and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, the unit provides advanced diagnostic tools for early detection of diseases like cancer. This is crucial for Nagaland, which sees about 2,800 new cancer cases yearly, and will reduce the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state. The unit also supports the upcoming medical college by offering better learning opportunities for students. Bery emphasized the role of CSR in state welfare and linked this project to India's goal of becoming a modern economy by 2047.
